Treatment Approach
My work with clients is eclectic as I use a variety of treatment approaches to meet your therapeutic needs. While some clients prefer a narrative approach where the clinician is there to facilitate exploration of thoughts/feelings as they pertain to experience, some clients prefer a more direct, clinical approach that incorporates behavioral techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. My practice is adaptable to either approach, often incorporates a mixture of these techniques and involves psychoeducation on a variety of topics. As my training in based in Social Work Theory I tend to view clients concerns and social problems through a critical lens that sees individual problems as extensions of systemic issues such as racism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, sexism etc. While we often find ourselves needing to adapt to a world in which these issues run rampant, I strongly believe that consciousness raising and collective action can have a place in the therapeutic process as well. My practice is therefore rooted in critical disability, critical race, feminist theory and is trauma informed.
More recently I have undergone training to become a registered clinical hypnotherapist and am excited to be able to offer this service to my clients as well.
